Early Life and Education
Louis Malle, born in Thumeries, France, to an affluent family, was the fifth of seven children.
He initially studied political science before pursuing cinematography.
Under the Sea with Cousteau
Malle's practical film training began with Jacques-Yves Cousteau, where he participated in a two-year expedition aboard the "Calypso." This experience culminated in the award-winning documentary film "The Silent World" (1956), co-directed with Cousteau.
